The Gauntlet: Studio Tour & Portfolio Review 2018

Portfolio Reviews & Agency Tours

Welcome to The Gauntlet, an incredible opportunity for students to polish their portfolios, sharpen their business acumen, and grow as individuals before they begin the real test: trying to get a job.

This special event gives participants a head-start on life in two parts. First, students receive personal tours of top local agencies, in which they’ll also get advice and guidance on what to expect after graduation. Second, students receive valuable feedback on their portfolios from industry veterans. Work will reviewed and critiqued just as it would in an internal agency meeting.

Here’s how it works: The first two Fridays in April (6th, 13th), groups of students will visit different participating Charlotte design studios. They’ll have a chance to interact with professionals, and to get a glimpse of agency life. Out studio roster includes Atypic, BOLTGROUP, and MODE.

The last two Fridays in April (20th, 27th) will then be devoted to portfolio reviews at Free Range Brewing. Students will have the valuable chance to have their work reviewed and critiqued by seasoned professionals with years of varied experience in the workplace.

The whole thing may sound a little scary, like a medieval trial of great danger, but we promise it’s not. It’s a chance to grow, to learn from people who are passionate about design, and to check out the inner workings of local agencies. There aren’t any Mountains of Doom or fire-breathing dragons. In fact most participating creatives have very nice breath.
