Talk About with Mike Wirth (general)

Join AIGA Charlotte for a workshop-lecture that dives into the world of infographic design and data visualization with Mike Wirth, an award-winning information designer and director of the New Media Design major at Queens University of Charlotte.

Attendees will engage the history, techniques, and technology of this growing discipline of graphic design and computer science. Sketchbooks and imagination required.

About the speaker
Mike is a designer, educator and artist who specializes in information design and data visualization from an educational perspective. He even has his own video infographic tutorial channel on YouTube. He holds a Master of Fine Arts in design and technology from Parsons School of Design and a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Long Island University in digital art and design. Currently, he is an assistant professor of art and director of the new media design major at Queens University of Charlotte, in North Carolina. Mike’s fine art has appeared locally, nationally and internationally.

In 2010, Mike was a featured artist at the inaugural TEDxCharlotte conference. Also in 2010, Mike and Dr. Suzanne Cooper-Guasco took home the $5,000 first prize in the Sunlight Foundation Design for America Competition. Their “How Our Laws Are Made” infographic recieved top honors and has since been featured on HuffingtonPost.com, WashingtonPost.com, TheAtlantic.com, and ComedyCentral.com.
