Student Portfolio Development Review (Member)

The AIGA Charlotte 2013 Student Portfolio Development Review is a half day-long event designed to give you—a graduating design student about to embark on a career in the design industry—advice about how to present yourself and your work.

Here’s your chance to:
-Have a professional look at your portfolio
-Distribute your resume
-Practice your interview skills
-Receive honest feedback about your work

We also need passionate, dedicated, and candid design professionals to volunteer as portfolio critics that day! Please email Giulio Turturro for more information.

Register Now! This event will sell out!

Why you should attend
You will receive thoughtful, constructive, one-on-one evaluation of your work by an array of design professionals—art directors, senior designers, educators, and hiring managers—from the metro-Charlotte area. Their goal is to offer candid advice about your portfolio based on their professional experience. While this event is not a job fair, some reviewers may be looking for potential employees or interns. It’s a great way to network and become aware of who’s who in the Charlotte design community.

Who should attend
All design students at the senior undergraduate level and recent graduates (Dec 2012). Space is limited. Sign-up is on a first come, first served basis. We encourage students from various design programs throughout the Charlotte NC area to have a presence at the event—and we usually pack a full house, so please register early!

What you should expect
Please arrive at least 15 minutes before the review meeting time to insure that you have ample time to find table space and set up your work.Review sessions are conducted like speed dating…bold
This format maximizes the number of reviewers you meet with during your review session. One-to-one time with reviewers is limited to 15 minutes, so be prepared to present your portfolio and receive feedback within this time constraint. This event is designed to model the interview process; so be early, be prepared, and be mindful of how you present yourself and your work. Professional attire is recommended.

How to be best prepared
-Present 8 to 12 of your best portfolio pieces.
-Have plenty copies of your resume with three or four printouts of your best work attached as a reference for reviewers
-A fully charged laptop if you plan on showing screen-based work (we cannot guarantee that power will be available to every table in the room) and extension cord.
-We cannot guarantee wireless internet, so run websites locally.
-No access to a laptop? Multi-media projects can be presented as printed screen shots.
