1. What is your proudest accomplishment?
I think beyond graduating college with decent marks and my accomplishments and involvement in Phi Kappa Tau, my greatest accomplishment has to do with seeing projects that I’ve worked on out in the “real world.” It’s still kind of crazy when I go to an airport or site where I’ve worked on a large project, having somewhat forgotten how much time and energy it took, and I look at a sign or system and say to myself, “Hey, I helped design that… and it’s still standing!”
2. Where do you get your inspiration from?
I love looking at old and new magazines for layout and design inspiration. I’ve always had a habit of tearing out great combinations and referencing them for later. That and getting out on the trails and hiking and just thinking through some processes in my head. I probably get the most accomplished when I take time to do that.
3. What would people be surprised to know about you?
I was actually a double-major for a few years in college before deciding to just finish with my GD degree. I was a major in metalsmithing with emphasis in jewelry design. I loved it and still hope to get back to it one day once I have the time and resources to build a backyard studio. That, and I love to spend time in my garden or in my kitchen cooking the goods from it.
4. What are you currently working on?
Currently I’m working on signage and wayfinding programs for four to five different regional parking decks, including the two decks in progress at Charlotte Douglas International Airport. I’m also wrapping up a large airport expansion wayfinding program at Myrtle Beach International Airport, as well as many print projects for various clients. The work with 24 Hours of Booty also continually churns as they grow and expand into different markets across the U.S.
5. What is the best purchase you’ve ever made?
I just brought home my “new” 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid last night. It will go along with my old Jeep Wrangler which gets horrible gas mileage, and I can’t wait to experience 42+ mpg and being able to hear myself think!
