Charlotte is hosting an international filmmaking competition in which local filmmakers have 48 hours to create a seven-minute film.

The 48 Hour Film Project is the largest timed film making competition in the world! In its 15 years, this platform has engaged nearly a million artists and this year is being held in 130 cities.

The format of this competition sets the stage for a crazy weekend of creativity! Media is invited to join local directors as they choose actors to be included at Acting Auditions Wednesday, August 15, 6:30pm at The Light Factory.

For filmmaking weekend, filmmakers meet August 17th (6:30pm at The Light Factory) to draw, at random, a genre of film. A sealed envelope will then be opened by Mary Ellen Player of Google Fiber which contains a character’s name, a prop and a line of dialogue. Filmmakers have 48 hours to work with their team to create the best seven-minute short film that includes their assignments. As Pride holds their parade in Charlotte the days as the filmmaking weekend many filmmakers will be looking to immortalize the voice of the LGBT community in their film project. This sets up human rights to be a theme during the film screening in Spirit Square on 8/31.

The screening on August 31 is the celebration of the Charlotte community in an effort to put Charlotte on the world stage. Films will be screened in the beautiful McGlohon Theater hosted by Blumental Performing Art Center and will include a Q&A with artists and an awards ceremony in which the winning film from Charlotte will be announced.
